Taking the bridge in from Queens to Manhattan
Nowhere to go but I can't let the cat in
This ain't the first time I seen this happen
Give me some trouble you're gonna be flattened
Sometimes you gotta check your head
I'll be there when the light turns red
Sometimes you gotta check your scene
I'll be there when the light turns green
Looming clouds land like a lid on the skyline
Coming down heavy right into the pipeline
Crawl like and ant to the fruit of the grape vine
Got to be somewhere but this ain't the right time
Sometimes it's just get out of town
I'll be there when the lights go down
Sometimes you gotta drive 'till dawn
I'll be there when the lights come on
Got to get down get on off of this treadmill
Like to be somewhere out west but instead we'll
Pace in our place tracing space in the anthill
Motor turns fast but my wheels at a standstill
Sometimes you gotta check your head
I'll be there when the light turns red
Sometimes you gotta check your scene
I'll be there when the light turns green
Yeah, sometimes it's just get out of town
I'll be there when the lights go down
Sometimes you gotta drive 'till dawn
I'll be there when the lights come on

Count your blessings beat the drum as you are able
Christian witness is getting out of hand
Fortune telling deal the cards and run the table
Future selling castles made of sand
But I was hearing voices about consequence and choices
Not fair that I should have to take a stand on something anyway
Yeah, so they say, you can give yourself away
So they say, but don't give yourself away
Now these waylaid travelers join together for protection
Close the churches and tear the kingdom down
Science lesson paint the face of resurrection
Crown the masses in the market town
But I was counting numbers in the vault of fortune's slumbers
Not fair that I should have to make a bet on something anyway
Yeah, so they say, you can give yourself away
So they say, but don't give yourself away
Give yourself another chance to make amends
The broken fences we defend
Love the pilgrim not the steeple
Power and glory to the people
There's a day that you never would believe in
There's a day that you couldn't have known
There's a day that you're sorry to see that
You never wanted to be living alone, but
Every time you go away you go and take a piece of me with you
You know it's true
Every time you go away you go and take a piece of me with you
Will it always be that way?
Yeah, so they say, you can give yourself away
So they say, but don't give yourself away
Yeah, so they say, you can give yourself away
So they say, but don't give yourself away

Stand in the sun shine in a faraway garden
If I seem distant, baby, I beg your pardon
But watching the world passing me by
I don't mind but that is a lie
'Cuz all I wanna do is get on back to you
California landscapes receding behind me
New York City skyscrapers pleading remind me
Taking my time trying to choose
Don't know what I'll find or what I might lose
But all I wanna do is get on back to you
Hackers and hippies, darling, well I've known a few
All the beautiful people think you're beautiful too
Moving ahead breaking new ground
Don't wanna go to fast to take a good look around
And all I wanna do is get on back to you
Yeah all I wanna do is get on back to you

I've been searching for the ghost in the machine
Searching for a ghost in the machine
Sometimes I can feel it there but it never can be seen
Searching for a ghost in the machine
I'm inventing an imaginary friend
From electrified ectoplasm and shining shifting sands
Making meaning from the message in the algorithms
But I fear that no one here understands
I've been busy building bots from bits and bytes
Practicing the poetry of curly braces every night
Conjure some thing conscious from the cypher, I just might
But still somehow this all doesn't feel quite right
So I'm searching for the ghost in the machine
Yeah searching for a ghost in the machine
I'm sure it's there somewhere but I can't quite say what I mean
Searching for a ghost in the machine
I've been grappling with the gremlins in the gear
Delivering the devil to the details down in there
I've been angling for an angel in the architecture
And I'm here just waiting for that spirit to appear
And I'm been searching for the ghost in the machine
Yeah searching for a ghost in the machine
I'd like to make it real but it remains a phantom dream
Searching for a ghost in the machine

Blue sky sun shine
Clear eyes free time
Tune in your mind
The whole world loves you
And the universe too
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a beautiful day
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a beautiful day
Night sky moon glow
You will soon know
Dawn comes new roads
Stormy weather yeah it's true
But we'll see it thru
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a beautiful day
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a beautiful day
Stormy weather yeah it's true
But we'll see it thru
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a beautiful day
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be, it's gonna be, it's gonna be
It's gonna be a beautiful day

Well I came upon a midnight clear and said unto myself
It seems I've live through all these years but never lived them well
It's all a game of star-crossed fate and lost identity
The love I know is far away and never will be free
I'm looking at myself again
I'd like to close my eyes
Wake up yourself
Wake up defenseless
Wake up and face the day that's waiting here for you
Make up your mind
Come to your senses
You know it's all you ever wanted me to do
When someone special comes along just once in a long while
It would prove all the journey's worth if I could see it in your smile
But I cannot be trusted now to break these chains of love
I dare not speak of such things when angels fly above
But I take my chances, anyway
And is it just a dream?
Wake up yourself
Wake up defenseless
Wake up and face the day that's waiting here for you
Make up your mind
Come to your senses
You know it's all you ever wanted me to do
Wouldn't you love to show me how
If we could make our way out of the here and now
But you say I can't give you what you want
'Til everything is something else
And I have been myself for far too long
Yeah I have been myself for far too long
So I wander down the twisted faith the road to anywhere
When I think about your voice it could be music in the air
We'll be here again, the feast of you and me
We'll be here again and angels let us be
So I bide my time
But will you know the day?
Wake up yourself
Wake up defenseless
Wake up and face the day that's waiting here for you
Make up your mind
Come to your senses
You know it's all you ever wanted me to do

The beat is red my heart is true
And I will still be loving you
The day turns black and my heart does too
And I will still be loving you
The beat is red my heart is true
The day turns black and my heart does too
The world could end and start anew
And I will still be loving you

Wind up that lonely mountain face to the great unknown
Rose up from small beginnings the law we know as cast in stone
Eternal to one lifetime blink of the cosmic eye
Regard for all we know here is qualified
It's just that looking down from the peak we know
There's little we can do or say
But watch the storm as it blows our way
But far above the golden calf, we don't worry 'bout the weather
We can see the far horizon on that bright and glorious day
In the hand of the long now, we can hold onto forever
As a distant star is rising, shining down to light the way
Truth and illusion, like a dream we reconcile
As the stranger condition draws us up the fateful miles
Away we go
One word and down she tumbles, before the mercy throne
Cast off for all redemption, we're not alone
And then the clouds will part and the sun breaks over
A moment we would all replay
Holding on but we cannot stay
But far above the golden calf, we don't worry 'bout the weather
We can see the far horizon on that peaceful distant shore
In the hand of the long now, we can hold onto forever
As a distant star is rising like one thousand times before
Maybe tomorrow holds the answer that we see
Or just echoes and versions of our yesterdays believed
And do you need to know, to feel, what will happen next to be
Or is it faith that you receive?
And will in time all be revealed?
Look to the stars - time out of mind - over to go - nothing behind
Once in an age - all of your life - singular day - edge of the knife
Sun and the moon - celestial sign - heaven on earth - one of a kind
Philosopher rage - taste of new wine - paisley and sage - Mary and time
Sweet Mary and time
